A One Year Anniversary of the Tbilisi International Airport New Passenger Terminal Opening – the Opening

The First Anniversary of Tbilisi International Airport New Passenger Terminal Opening was celebrated. The Tbilisi International Airport is operated by TAV Georgia, the operator of the international airport operations corparate TAV Airports Co., in Georgia. The celebration was attended by the airport authorities and the private sector representatives. The representatives of the Georgian Orthodox Church also attended to the celebration.

 

Starting from November 2005 up to now the General Manager of the Tbilisi international airport operator company TAV Georgia – Mr. Burak Birhekimoglu mentioned that “the new terminal with its modern architecture and the high functioning technologies, has made the greatest step on the way to accelerate the development of the Georgian civil aviation sector. Mr. Birhekimoglu also explained and demonstrated with figures that by the end of the year 2007 the total passenger flow of the new passenger terminal was increased by 8,5 % and the number of both cargo and passenger flights – by 18,7%.

 

Birhekimoglu, when underlining  the multi-functioning architechure of the terminal, high technology and provision of services via the modern management systems, mentioned that TAV Urban Georgia’s intention is to transform the Tbilisi International Airport into a significant regional hub of air transportation between the Europe and Asia. When applying the mentioned strategy, he said that they were not to intend to remain within the boundaries of airport operations, and added that they were intended to carry out the projects that would serve to the interests of Georgia.

He continued “ We are fully aware that on 8th of February, our new terminal opening date which is  the same date as Davitoba- one of the main celebrations of Georgia, the expectations of Georgia from the new terminal are as high as our own expectations. We try our best to meet the said expectations.”

 

The renovated International Airport of Tbilisi ensures the most flexible flow of both passengers and luggage from car parking lot  to aircrafts. There are 24 Check- in counters, 3 aerobridges, 3 baggage conveyors,  and  a car park for 325 vehicles in the terminal, which occupies the area about 25 thousand square meters.

 The capacity of the new terminal building is 1500 passengers - per 1 hour and it can serve 2,8 million passengers per a year.

   

Besides the Tbilisi and Batumi international airports in Georgia, that are the pioneers of the TAV Airports Co. of airport operation projects abroad, TAV Airports Co also operates airports in Turkey such as Istanbul Ataturk Airport, Ankara Esenboga Domestic and Internatinal Terminal, and Tunisia Monastir Habib Bourguiba airports abroad. TAV Airports Co has the right to operate of the Antalya Gazipasa and Tunisia Enfidha Zine Abidine Ben Ali airports.
